As a sexually liberated Gay man, there’s one staple of “Gay culture” that I’ve been quite fond of over the years: Cruising. Cruising has given me opportunities to explore myself sexually and, in turn, learn about myself, as a whole (or a whole hoe…either works). Not to mention, it just makes sex that much more fun. However, there’s a few common things I’ve seen and experienced in cruising spaces that confuse me, if not put me off. I feel like I’m not alone in any of these, so let’s share:

Why “Love is Love” Is Bullshit
Continuing the “Gay shit” for Pride 2017, I thought this would be a good time to revisit a rant I’ve made before. Of course, said rant, in its original form, is currently unavailable, because fuck Twitter. So, might as well recreate it in blog form. I wanna take this time to break down why “Love Is Love” is a terrible way to advocate for LGBTQ people. Particularly, since this recently popped up on my Facebook news feed:
As with most any other trendy form of activism, “Love is Love” seems innocent enough on its face. It’s another form of pushing the message of equality for LGBTQ people…to advocate that we’re “just like” the heteros.
…but here’s one issue with that: [Read more…]
Ask the HoeMo #1: Queer Sexuality
So, I’ve decided to try something different with my blog, by taking questions from followers and answering them, here. Doing this for a few reasons:
- Making my online presence more interactive, as a lot of the time, I feel like I’m just talking at people.
- Letting followers drive more of the content, which can keep things interesting and fresh
- Gives me something to do during dry phases where I may not have particular things in mind to expand on beyond a brief Facebook post or Twitter thread.
And the first topic I’m starting with is something easy: SEXUALITY. Particularly, sexuality that centers around Queer men, mainly because it’s something easy and innate for me (where I’ve done the bulk of my critical observation and personal theories and analysis throughout my 20’s). And in addition to the 3 objectives above, I also wanted to use this as a way to outline one of my goals for my work in 2017, where I expand my blog into more of a sex-positive space. So, here we are, today!
And without further ado… [Read more…]
Barack Obama Ain’t Shit…
How much longer until we, collectively realize this?
Obama’s anti-Black/Brown transgressions, virtually since day 1, have been well-documented, particularly in that he’s expanded the worst aspects the Bush Administration’s foreign policy, which has seen countless Black & Brown deaths, and has only sparked more terrorism in the Middle East and Africa. Granted, many democratic party loyalists (Black ones, especially) will rationalize this by saying Obama’s a figurehead with limited power in all of this (…although, at that point, I’d have to wonder why they’re not calling out Hillary Clinton’s direct involvement in all of those things as former Secretary of State, but I digress). 2016 Olympic Games: An Illustration of white, Male Privilege
I’ll keep this one (relatively) short and simple.
We have 2 Olympic athletes: Gabby Douglas and Ryan Lochte. Both made headlines for reasons that had nothing to do with their respective sports.
Gabby Douglas forgot to put her hand on her heart during the national anthem and didn’t look enthusiastic enough in cheering one of her teammates.
Ryan Lochte drunkenly trashed a gas station restroom and then lied about it, seeking to frame innocent people for threatening his life.
Gabby Douglas, a 20 year-old, has had her character stomped all over, been relentlessly harassed, and just generally been completely torn down.
Ryan Lochte, a 32 year-old, has been protected, had his actions rationalized and will probably have all of this forgotten about well before the 2020 olympic games (…hell…probably before these 2016 games are over). [Read more…]
