Greetings Ladies, Gentlemen, bigots, fuckboys and everyone in between. My name is Marq a.k.a. Mouth of the South a.k.a. Angry Black HoeMo.
I’m a native of Louisiana (on the opposite end of the fun part, unfortunately), where I graduated from college with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems, as well as a minor in Violin Performance. As one of the handful of college students lucky enough to get a job after college, I then went on to accept an offer that took me to San Antonio for 4 years…that was a thing that happened, and now I’m a happy resident of Chicago.
By day, I’m an I/T professional, because I’ve done poverty in a capitalist system before and it blows. Outside of that, I’m a violinist, writer/blogger, social commentator and power bottom…none of which I’m currently making money from (unless someone wants to help me change that). I’m also of the leather community (and BDSM-adjacent) since early 2012, and am involved in local activism in Chicago.
Much of my activism and advocacy is rooted in critically examining various facets of Blackness and Queerness, and particularly, the intersections of both identities. I’m also very intentional about doing this work through a sex-positive lens. Oftentimes, as Gay men (similarly to women), we’re led to believe that we can only be intellectual and smart, or overtly sexual, but never both. One goal of my work is to help change that notion, and normalize the idea that all of these things can exist in one body…and we don’t have to compromise any one part of ourselves to make space for another.
Basically, I love being a Black, Gay, Leatherman Power Bottom, and I proudly & unapologetically express my truth as it relates to that whenever I can. And if I can help give a voice and language to others who share identity with me, then it’s all that much better.
Thanks for visiting and I truly hope you enjoy my work!
