It’s Past Time To Raise Our Standards for “Allies”

April 1, 2019 by Angry Black HoeMo

Beyonce & Jay-Z accepting the Vanguard Award at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards

At the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards, held last Thursday, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were presented with this year’s Vanguard Award. This is an award is meant to annually acknowledge people who don’t identify as LGBTQ, but are considered to have made great strides towards promoting the acceptance of LGBTQ people (in other words, it’s an award for LGBTQ “allies”). When I first learned that GLAAD was planning on presenting them with this award a couple of weeks back, I…immediately had questions.

In doing a little digging to figure out what all, exactly, Bey & Jay have done to help advance the plight of LGBTQ people, the answers that I found largely just reaffirmed what I’d long figured. That their advocacy is cool, but nothing particularly risky, threatening to the status quo or revolutionary. Look, y’all know I love me some Beyoncé (and Jay-Z is cool too, or whatever). But let’s be honest. This award is just…not it. [Read more…]

Navigating Friendships with Non-LGBTQ People

June 1, 2018 by Angry Black HoeMo

A PSA for my fellow Gay men, and perhaps anyone else in the LGBTQ community.

I’m gonna start this by laying out a little scenario:

Let’s say you’re a Gay man who primarily has non-LGBTQ (a.k.a. cisgender-heterosexual or “straight”) men as friends (which you likely applaud yourself for, daily…but that’s another issue). Y’all are just casually hanging out and they’re all talking about sex. They’re exchanging stories of their recent “conquests,” and are having an absolute ki. And then, you try to chime about your last sexual experience, in the exact same way that they just did.

…but you feel the good vibes noticeably drop. It gets awkward, and you immediately get the hint that you should back off from your story. You deflate, retreat into your own head (where you’ll likely quietly replay that moment in a cringeworthy loop), and let them take back over the conversation.

This is likely not an unfamiliar experience for Gay men who hang around folks who are non-LGBTQ. And many people’s go-to response may be to just roll with it and not see it as a big deal. But let’s be clear about one thing: [Read more…]

Stonewall UK and Capitalizing on LGBTQ Oppression

September 19, 2017 by Angry Black HoeMo

That awkward moment when you’re casually browsing Twitter and come across this shit:

Obviously, the irony (and sheer gall) of an organization, literally named after a riot, condemning any and all violence as protest is the first thing that pops out. Even more so, since the incident that sparked their response was Trans women responding in self-defense to anti-Trans activists…much like the very historical event that this organization named itself after. And this was swiftly pointed out by much of Twitter. Myself included:

For the record, if someone wants to spearhead making “Tea & Orgies” a thing, I’m down to help make that into a reality

But I’d like to go a step further and talk about the respectability of these liberal, white-run organizations that claim to center LGBTQ equality and activism. Specifically, how their position can actually make them a hindrance to the very causes they claim to exist for. [Read more…]

“I’m Not Afraid of Gay People”…Another Lie Bigots Tell

August 7, 2017 by Angry Black HoeMo

Firstly, TW & CW (Trigger and Content Warning) for sexual assault of young boys

Recently, rapper and anti-Gay sewer rat, Lil Boosie, made a post on Instagram, openly talking about the “gift” he’s planning on giving his (underage) son for his birthday:

For the record, this dude is actual sewage

Now, obviously, the most pressing issue here is the fact that a “father” is essentially forcing his young son to have sex, with no thought to this boy’s own sexual autonomy. The implication is also that Boosie would be using an adult woman for this “service.” For those who are just catching up to the basics of consent, this is child rape. I’m an abolitionist, and really not one of advocate for feeding the prison industrial complex, but…Boosie really pushes it. Like…wow.

But in this piece, I wanna expand on a point made by one of my mutuals on Twitter, about how how this practice is rooted in hatred of Gay people. Let’s be clear that men who force their sons to exhibit toxic masculinity at an early age do so, primarily because they don’t want them to display any kind of association with Gayness. [Read more…]
